Music Director Search

The Milwaukee American Legion Band wishes to announce that it is launching a search for a
new Music Director.

The Milwaukee American Legion Band has been a leader in the local Milwaukee concert
band community for over 100 years. The Band is the oldest continuously operating
American Legion Band in the country and it has a long history of musical excellence in
service to the local community. The Band performs Services, Ceremonies, and Concerts all
over Southeastern Wisconsin. These include services and concerts for Veterans’ groups,
ceremonies such as the Wood National Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremonies, and about six
formal concerts per year, including Bay View’s iconic “Chill on the Hill.”

A new, permanent Music Director will be chosen following a selection process that will be
conducted during the Fall of 2023. The Music Director is responsible for directing the band
and making all artistic decisions related to preparing the band for and leading the band
during all performances throughout the calendar year.

All candidates will be considered. Individuals with directing experience, strong musical
knowledge, and a desire to serve the community are encouraged to apply. The best
candidates will also be adaptable to a variety of challenges, familiar with the local music
scene, and have a strong desire to work with adult musicians of different skill levels.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to:

Band President Richard Schwartz at: richardschwartz111@gmail.com
